Capt. William Bolton, NDEAM coordinator, explained the importance of taking this month to focus on disability employment at Wright-Patterson.
“Inclusive hiring and maintaining a diverse workforce are essential to mission success because it keeps us from living in our own silos. It broadens our horizons where we can create the best assets, practices, and trained individuals for mission success,” Bolton said.
To kick off the month, OOD will host an information booth and disability etiquette class in the Wright-Patterson Medical Center auditorium Oct 4 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Anyone with base access is encouraged to attend.
Bolton explained that with Wright-Patterson having many civilian employees, it is important to capture an individual’s talent and capabilities regardless of their disabilities. This event, and the ones to follow, will provide avenues for hiring individuals with disabilities and to promote the best workplace possible for them.
“I hope that those doing the hiring on this base will come and participate in these events to learn how to treat a person with a disability through proper etiquette and language,” said Bolton.
