I am so proud of the accomplishments of our staff and students. Congratulations to Dr. Sue Brackenhoff and the Fairborn Intermediate School staff.

The Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators announced that Fairborn Intermediate School is the winner of the 2011 Hall of Fame School Recognition Award.

Brackenhoff and her staff will be presented with the award during the annual OAESA Professional Conference. OAESA will recognize seven elementary Hall of Fame schools and one Middle-level Hall of Fame school during the 2011 Awards Luncheon.

The eight winning Hall of Fame schools represent the finest schools in the state of Ohio. I want to congratulate Fairborn Intermediate School for receiving this outstanding honor and for your recognition as the first “No Excuses University” school in Ohio.

Last month, Fairborn Intermediate Destination ImagiNation teams were on their way to Miami University to compete at the regional level. Destination ImagiNation is designed to show how creative and skilled students can be at problem solving.

FIS has formed three teams chosen from a group of more than 125 students who auditioned for the teams. The team led by Josh Steck includes Lauren Thomas, Sydney Steck, Brayden DeWall, Kensi Cheadle, Joe Nickel, Matthew Hoffman and Ned Dunbar.

The team won second place in its category at the region competition. One more team lead by Jodi Henry and Pam Schnabel is made up of Caleb Meredith, Jesse Tidwell, Tyler Barker, Mary Shaw, Maris Brewer, Troy Herald, and Chloe Snyder.

This team also won second place in its category in the region. Pat Murakami’s and Betsy Burns’ team members are Chynna Spitler, Emily Howard, Brooke Mullins, Nicholas Greene, Jayden Brown, Isabella Carone and McKayla Lyons.

This team won first place in their category at the region competition and will go to the state competition in Columbus on April 16.

I also want to thank Fairborn Primary School students and staff for their recent efforts to raise funds to support relief in Japan. Assistant principal Eric Combs was duct taped and the school raised more than $700.

Congratulations to John Gorretta, band director for Fairborn City Schools. Gorretta was awarded the Huntington Learning Center and Mix 107.7 Teacher of the Month.

Fairborn High School recently held its first father/daughter dance sponsored by the National Honor Society.

Girls from preK-fifth grades and their fathers danced the night away at Fairborn High School to raise funds for National Honor Society.
