Fire at area dairy plant won't stop production

Officials with Smith Dairy Products said its facility will be functional again soon following a fire there this week.

Wayne Dairy products, Inc. suffered moderate damage Thursday afternoon because of a fire that started in the roof.

The fire caused heat and smoke damage. Key processing areas remain in place and structural engineers are already taking care of assessment and repair, according to company leaders.

"Key to the orderly continuation of the dairy's operation during the assessment and repair of the processing facility, Smith Dairy will use its home-based operations in Orrville, Ohio, and its Pacific Valley Dairy plant in Missouri," states a Smith Dairy release.

"All product shipments to the company's national and regional retail customers will continue on schedule."
