Flipped Durango sends seven to hospital

The driver lost control of a sport utility vehicle that ran off Old U.S. 35 in Xenia Twp. with seven people inside on Friday evening, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Saturday, July 4.

The accident at 6:35 p.m. Friday caused the Dodge Durango to run off the road into a field and roll over several times. The car was carrying two adults, including the driver, and five children. The two adults, riding up front, and three of the children were thrown from the SUV as it rolled over, the Highway Patrol said.

No charges had been filed Saturday. The patrol had been unable to interview the driver, Samaher A. Mansour, 32, because she remained in Miami Valley Hospital in critical condition, patrol Sgt. John Lumpcik said.

According to witness statements, the SUV’s wheels dropped off the right side of the road before the driver hastily overcorrected, swerved back across the roadway’s center line, then swerved back to the right and off U.S. 35 into the field, Lumpcik said.

A passenger in the SUV’s right front seat was identified as Eaman Abdullhady, 36. She and the driver are from the Cleveland suburb of Lakewood, the patrol said.

Mansour and two children, ages 13 and 3, suffered the most severe injuries, with the 13-year-old also listed in critical condition, Lumpcik said. The two children remained at Children’s Medical Center of Dayton on Saturday, he said.

No one in the car had been wearing safety belts, the patrol said. There was no evidence that there had been any use of drugs or alcohol, investigators said.

The group had been headed back to the Cleveland area from a trip to Kentucky, Lumpcik said.
