Fox 45/ABC 22 officials sighted economic pressures as the reason the station ended its relationship with George in 2009. She was a morning anchor.
George later landed a position at WDJT-TV, the CBS affiliate in Milwaukee. She left that station after about a year and was doing freelance reporting at the time of her death, according to the blog Hispanic News Network.
WDJT-TV confirmed George’s passing today. Police are investigating; few details have been released.
Police went to George's house to perform a welfare check, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports.
When I interviewed her in 2009, George said she cherished the ties she formed in the Miami Valley.
“Dayton has been my home for five years, ” she said at the time. “It has been a wonderful place. It’s been a great place to gain experience. I’ve met wonderful people.”
George said she would miss serving the community.
“It kills me,” she said. “I have invested in this community.”
Although she was disappointed to be leaving, George tried to remain positive.
“It is like they always say, when one door closes another one opens,” the Houston-raised, animal lover said. “I am looking forward to seeing what happens in the future.”
She volunteered for organizations like the Humane Society of Greater Dayton.
Several messages from friends have been posted to George's Facebook page since Cox Media Group Ohio Breaking News Team first reported the passing Thursday morning.
