The garage sale runs Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon.
More than 200 Special Olympics athletes in Clark County take part in the programs, said track and field coach Cindy Lewis, whose son has been part of the track team for 12 years.
The fundraiser is an important part of how teams buy uniforms, equipment and snacks and also pay for entry fees and transportation throughout the year, Lewis said.
Special Olympics of Clark County hosts a variety of sports from basketball and volleyball to weight lifting and bocce ball, said Melissa Dabe, events coordinator with Clark County Developmental Disabilities.
Items at the garage sale this weekend range from full dish sets to household appliances like stoves and microwaves. Electronics such as televisions and DVD players to books and clothing are also available.
Special Olympics plays an important role in the lives of many people with developmental disabilities in the county, Lewis said.
“A lot of these athletes have never been able to be involved in sports, but in Special Olympics we can always find a sport or an event that they can do,” she said.
