Gas prices up slightly this week

COLUMBUS, Ohio  -- Gas still costs nearly $1 more than it did a year ago around Ohio, though prices in the state are close to the national average.

Monday's survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express shows regular-grade gasoline is averaging $3.64 a gallon statewide, compared to $3.68 last week and $2.71 last year at this time.

The lowest price we find locally is $3.45 at the Speedway on Colonel Glenn in Airborne and the Marathon on Colonel Glenn in Beavercreek.

Across the country, regular is currently averaging $3.65, a penny more than in Ohio.

U.S. gasoline prices broke records earlier this year as developing nations pushed up world oil demand, while uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa raised concerns about supplies. Prices fell after that but have rebounded since late August.

Regular hit an all-time high in Ohio of $4.16 a gallon in early May.
