Greene County detention center worker arrested for allegedly smuggling meth

A woman who was working on contract at the Greene County Adult Detention Center is accused of sneaking methamphetamine into the jail, according to a release from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

Melissa J. Penn, 51, of Vandalia, was arrested Tuesday and is being held in the Greene County Jail on suspicion of illegal conveyance of drugs, according to the release. Bond has been set at $15,000 for Penn, and she faces two counts of the third-degree felony, according to the release.

An investigation that began within the past two weeks revealed that Penn was bringing meth into the adult detention center, 2295 Greene Way Blvd., Xenia, according to the release.

Authorities said Penn worked in food service at the facility as a contracted employee.

The suspect is due for an arraignment today in Xenia Municipal Court.
