Hartle died at Miami Valley Hospital about three hours after the accident on Jan. 21, but the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office notified the sheriff’s office of the death today, Feb. 2, according to the release.
Hartle’s death marks Darke County’s first fatal accident of 2016.

An 82-year-old Greenville man riding a John Deere Gator was thrown from the all-terrain vehicle this afternoon when it was struck by a minivan in front of his house just east of Pikeville.
Crews were called shortly after 3 p.m. to the 5700 block of Olive Road after Ralph Hartle of Greenville was ejected when his Gator was struck by an eastbound Dodge Caravan driven by 16-year-old Betsy Hall of Bradford, according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
Hartle was picking up a trash can along the side of the road and was making a left turn into his driveway when he was hit. The octogenarian was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital, where his condition was unknown tonight.
Hall was taken to Wayne HealthCare and two juveniles in her minivan were not injured.
A reconstruction team was called to the crash, which remains under investigation, deputies said.

A man riding a Gator was thrown after his all-terrain vehicle was struck by a minivan just east of Pikeville.
The man on the Gator was stopped near a trash can in the 5700 block of Oliver Road when he drove onto the road in front of a Dodge Caravan traveling east, Darke County Sheriff’s deputies told our news partner, BlueBag Media. The minivan, driven by a 16-year-old girl, was not able to stop in time to avoid hitting the Gator. She and two other juveniles in the minivan were not injured.
The man on the Gator, described as elderly, was ejected and was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital. His name and condition were not immediately known, BlueBag media reported.
FIRST REPORT (Jan. 21)
A medical helicopter was called this afternoon for a person riding an ATV that was struck by a vehicle.
Crews were called around 3 p.m. to the 5000 block of Oliver Road.
According to initial reports, the person on the all-terrain vehicle was thrown. CareFlight is on scene.
