TROY – The Small Town Singers, a northern Ohio singing group with a 14-year-old member with Troy ties, will perform two shows Sept. 29 and 30 in Troy and West Milton.
The six-member group based in Willard, Ohio, will perform a Doo Wop Show at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Staunton Grange in Troy and a gospel show at 2 p.m. Sept. 30 at Sarver’s Barn in Overlook Park, West Milton.
Group members include Olivia Adelman, whose mother, Wendy (Lutz) Adelman is from Troy, and grandmother, Sandra Lutz lives in Troy.
Olivia Adelman joined the group in September 2011. She sings and plays guitar. Adelman brought with her experience singing and performing in Jill Wheeler’s Curtain Call Productions in Norwalk and a year of guitar instruction.
Earlier this year, she was named grand champion of the 7-13 year old division in the 2012 Wish Upon A Song talent contest held at Van Wert Civic Theater.
She also has participated in children’s theater productions including Oliver and sang in the Colgate Country Music Showdown and Texaco Country Music Showdown.
In her performer profile, Adelman said she especially enjoys singing at nursing homes and churches.
When she’s not singing or studying at Monroeville High School, where she is a freshman, Adelman plays volleyball, participates in a church guitar group and takes vocal and guitar lessons, among other activities.
Grandmother Lutz said she tries to attend as many of the Small Town Singers performances as possible. “I just love the group … each and every one of them individually bring their own personality and talents. There is no ‘star’ of the shows. Each person is showcased at some point in the show, but it’s the combination of their shared talents that make the group different,” she said.
