“I’ll use the $3,000 scholarship to further my education, possibly at the University of Dayton,” said Sandstrom, who has worked as a lifeguard this summer at the Sycamore Trails Swim Club.
As a student at Centerville High School, Sandstrom played volleyball for two years, followed by two years of golf. A graduate of the Centerville Leadership Academy, Sandstrom plays guitar and sings with the choir at Southbrook Christian Church on West Spring Valley Road. The Sandstroms also are parents of Kevin, 11, and Meri, 8.
Four princesses were named to the court:
Princess Catie Potter, 19 and a sophomore at the University of Cincinnati studying nursing, is a 2009 Centerville High School graduate. Catie was the Winter Guard captain. Her parents are Matt and Amy Potter of Centerville. She has a brother, Dan, 21.
Princess Emma Kollie, 20 and a 2008 graduate of Fairmont High School, is a junior at Cedarville University, studying Bible and political science. While at Fairmont, she was on the honor roll, ran cross country and was a cheerleader. Her parents are William and Ellen Kollie of Kettering. Ethan Kollie, 15, is her brother.
Princess Morgan Shope, 21 and a 2007 graduate of Fairmont High School, is a senior at Ohio State University, majoring in social work. Shope was active in an a cappella group and played field hockey for three years at Fairmont. Her parents are Roger and Anne Shope of Kettering. She has a brother, Michael, 18, and a sister, Rebecca, 12.
Princess Hannah Brown, 17, is a senior at Oakwood High School, where she is on the honor roll and student council, and is a cheerleader. She has studied dance and is associated with a special advanced dance program at Wright State University. Tracy and Lori Brown of Oakwood are her parents. She has a brother, Christopher, 26.
Each princess received a $1,500 scholarship.
Brittany Waag, pageant director, said that this was the first year young men were invited to vie for the $1,500 Skip Lowe Community Service Award recognizing their contribution to the community.
Tyler Maschino, 17 and a senior at Oakwood High School and an Eagle Scout, won the scholarship. His community service includes building a storage unit at Lutheran Church of Our Savior and working twice monthly at St. Vincent Hotel. His parents are Kyle and Lisa Maschino of Oakwood and he has a brother, Alex, 14.
Using the 2010 Holiday at Home theme “Say It With Music,” the stage was decorated with musical instruments. Bobbie Strobhar, harpist, and the Day Tones barbershop quartet provided the musical entertainment. Master of Ceremonies was Dan Edwards from WDTN.
