Indiana brewery coming to Ohio, eyeing Dayton locations

An Indiana-based brewery is looking to build brewpubs in the Dayton, Cincinnati and Columbus areas and has already signed a lease for its first southwest Ohio location, its founder said Thursday in a phone interview.

Indianapolis-based "Thr3e Wise Men Brewing Co." and its affiliated company, Scotty's Brewhouse, plan to open a small brewery and pub at 325 S. College Ave. near the Miami University campus in Oxford. There are 15 Scotty's/Thr3e Wise Men pubs and brewpubs in Indiana, and one in Florida.

The Oxford location represents the start of a broader expansion into Ohio.

“We are looking in Dayton, Cincinnati and Columbus for additional sites,” brewery founder and owner Scotty Wise told this news outlet.

The brewpub will seat 180-200 people and will employ as many as 80, Wise said. “We hope to open in November,” he said.

Wise opened his first pub in 1996, but didn’t open a brewery until 2011. The Oxford location will brew a small portion of the pub’s beers, which will include beers brewed by Thr3e Wise Men’s main brewery and from other craft breweries.

“About eight taps will be ours, and the other 22 will be guest beers,” he said.

The pub’s food menu will focus on pizza and burgers, including a signature burger that is topped by peanut butter, cheddar cheese, jalapenos and bacon. But every Scotty’s also offers an extensive gluten-free menu and a children’s menu.

“We’re an all-ages, kids-friendly restaurant,” Wise said.
