The company will move its approximately 50 employees from its claims office at 6450 Poe Ave. to the 16,000 square foot North Dixie address, he said.
“I think this is great for the township because it will help increase the property values in the area,” said Kim Lapensee, Butler Twp. administrator. “It will help us in the long run because some of the taxes coming into the township will help with the lack of funding for the police department.”
The North Dixie location differs from the Poe Avenue building in that it provides an area for damaged vehicles to be dropped-off by customers who need to get an estimate or rent a vehicle.
The estimated cost for the entire construction project was approximately $3 million, according to Erika Vogel, assistant Butler Township administrator.
“We hope that the new Progressive office will spur additional development in the area,” Vogel said.
Progressive Insurance is based in Mayfield Village, which is 20 minutes outside of east Cleveland, Sibel said.
The company was founded by the late Joseph Lewis and Harold Green in 1937. Lewis’s son Peter Lewis of Cleveland became CEO of the company in 1965.
The current CEO is Glenn Renwick and he, along with the company’s Chief Claims Officer Tricia Griffith, are scheduled to attend the new service center’s grand opening on Oct. 3.
An open house for the community to view the one-floor facility tentatively has been scheduled for Oct.12.
Progressive Insurance is known for its comedic commercials which usually feature the company’s fictional character Flo, an overly enthusiastic saleswoman.
