“Only those customers who have preordered their device will be able to get the device,” said Chris Bauer, spokesman for AT&T Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.
After receiving over 600,000 preorders June 15, the most Apple ever had in a single day, AT&T and Apple exhausted their supply and stopped taking orders. That created doubt about who could buy the phone on its release day.
AT&T now says that until June 29, all supplies will go toward filling the preorders.
After Tuesday, the stores will take orders, and the customer will receive an email when their phone has shipped. Customers will have the option of having their phone delivered to their house, work, or to an AT&T store to be picked up.
It is not clear how quickly those in-store orders would be filled. However, the Apple store website said the black iPhone 4 is available for preorder purchase and would ship by July 14.
