Jobs proposal could bring 100 new jobs and keep 200 in Kettering

A proposal by BWI Group (BeijingWest Industries Co.) to keep 200 existing jobs, and add 100 more engineering & corporate jobs to Kettering is being considered by the Ohio Tax Credit Authority today.

BWI Group makes chassis, brake and suspension systems.  The proposal would bring these higher paying jobs to Kettering’s Miami Valley Research Park.

The $20 million project, which Kettering and Montgomery County officials have pursued for more than a year, would build a 160,000-square-foot building at the park for the consolidation of three U.S. BWI locations, said Bruce Pearson, president and chief executive of the research park in East Kettering.

“This is very large,” Pearson said. “The important element here is that it retains a technology, an automotive technology, that was started in the Dayton area 80, 90 years ago by Charles F. Kettering and others.”

BWI has locations at 3100 Research Blvd. in Kettering and 2582 East River Road in Moraine.

Schwieterman said the company is going through a site selection process.  He doesn’t expect an immediate decision on which location BWI will ultimately choose, even if the Tax Credit Authority approves state incentives for the project today.
