Group: The Kettering Kickers is a group of 10 women who perform about 24 shows per year. The dance members are Rhetta Riggs, Reva Neace, Ruth Goosman, Jan Letner, Theresa Hanshaw, Lou Johnson, Dee Herzing, Peggy Hunter, Helena Gerrard and Beverly Arthur.
When was it: The group performs line dances to 1950s, '60s and '70s music. Some of the yearly performances include retirement communities, nonprofit centers, churches, local festivals and a show at the Schuster Center. The group dances for donations and each show is about 45 minutes. The women will perform at Courthouse Square in downtown Dayton at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 5.
How did it go: "We're a very energetic, spunky line dance team," dancer Riggs said. Riggs, 87, has been with the group since 1998.
“We perform lively upbeat jamborees,” she said. “People are amazed at how physically demanding our shows are. The real secret is everyone’s positive attitude. It’s real fun to dance for an enthusiastic audience. We all are seniors who love to have fun.”
What was the best part: "We just love dancing," Riggs said. "We really, really put our heart and soul in everything we do. We get a lot of praise for our work. When you get this old you don't stop dancing because you get old, you get older because you keep dancing. Get out and do things you've really enjoyed your whole life; stay as young and sharp as you can."
