Kettering hospital expansion on agenda Monday

KETTERING — The city’s Board of Zoning Appeals will revisit the issue of Kettering Medical Center expansion during a meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at 3600 Shroyer Road.

The zoning board approved the hospital’s expansion plan in February, but after two citizen appeals, the City Council sent a part of the issue back to the panel.

Kettering Medical Center wants to build an outpatient surgery center, proton cancer center, three-level parking garage and office building on 34 acres across Southern Boulevard from the existing hospital.

In order for the hospital to construct buildings taller than the zoning code normally allows there, the zoning appeals board must conclude that “the increase in medical facilities to be provided by the plan will substantially advance the level of health care in the city of Kettering and thereby promote the public health, safety, and general welfare.”

KMC President Roy Chew said the hospital would like to break ground this year.
