Carlson confirmed Wednesday that Krispy Kreme will permanently close the Kettering doughnut shop — where he has served as general manager since 2005 — effective Jan. 31. The store opened in 1999.
But the Kettering retail store does not bake or distribute the grocery-store Krispy Kreme doughnuts, Carlson said. A wholesale distribution center in Monroe in Butler County supplies local grocers, and will continue to do so, Carlson said.
“They absolutely will still be available,” the store manager said of the Krispy Kreme grocery-store doughnuts.
The Winston-Salem, N.C.-based chain made the “difficult decision” to shut down the Kettering store but is offering its 20 employees additional pay and the possibility of transferring to another Krispy Kreme location, Carlson said Wednesday.
The company operates a retail doughnut shop in Anderson Twp. in the Cincinnati area and three locations in the Columbus area.
