Local broker accused of defrauding clients of $1M

A local investment broker is accused of defrauding his clients of more than $1 million.

The Ohio Department of Commerce filed a restraining order against Wayne Essex and his company, Essex HR, in Centerville late last week.

Authorities said, "The state of Ohio has alleged that Mr. Essex was selling securities without a license, selling unregistered securities and engaging in investment fraud."

Essex is accused of taking money from about 20 clients and spending it on himself for out of state trips.
