Local Muslim group calls on all faiths to gather in wake of New Zealand killings

The Islamic Society of Greater Dayton is organizing a gathering tonight in honor of the lives lost in the March 15 mass shooting at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand.

People of all faiths are invited to the event, 7 to 8 p.m. at the Al-Huda Mosque, 730 S. Alpha Bellbrook Road, according to the release from the Islamic Society.

Brenton Harrison Tarrant, 28, of Australia, has been charged as the suspect after 50 people were killed and 50 more injured in the attacks, described as the deadliest mass shooting in New Zealand’s history.

“Let us gather in solidarity to denounce bigotry, racial, ethnic and religious hatred in any form,” according to the release.
