The young artist, Kesla DeWall of Xenia, is the daughter of Rob and Viv DeWall. Kesla hopes to become an architect and illustrator when she grows up, according to the magazine.

The “Your Own Pages” section receives thousands of submissions each month, said Hillary Bates, a spokeswoman for Highlights.
Typically, the magazine receives 35,000 writing and art submissions during the course of the year.
“It’s not a contest,” said Bates, “We do look for something that represents the kids’ best work and effort. It’s a nice result.”
Bates said the editors search for submissions that “will inspire creativity in the magazine. The ones that get picked just had some quality that struck the individual editor.”
The magazine is geared toward boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 12.
Bates said the magazine does not alter submitted artwork that it publishes.
Brent Devitt, principal at Ascension, said Kesla “loves art. She’s a real nice young lady.”
“We’re very proud of her getting her artwork in there,” Devitt said. “I think that’s really neat.”
