Her gift has resulted in her earning first-place in a Parade magazine photography competition with a photo of a Spice Bush Swallowtail Caterpillar. She has also received honorable mention in the photography magazine, Forum magazine and had photos featured in the 2008 Cox Arboretum newsletter, Arb News.
Folfas grew up in Kettering until third grade when her parents, Greg and Fran Mounier, moved to Washington Twp. She was active in the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church youth group, in the Archbishop Alter High School marching band and a volunteer organizations such as Students in Against Drunk Driving. It was also at Alter where she met her husband, Andy Folfas, who earned a degree in geology at UD and currently works at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
After graduating in 1997, Jeanne Folfas attended UD where she was instrumental in starting “Theology on Tap,” a singles group that presented a series of speakers addressing issues of faith to students in community settings like popular restaurants and bars.
“I thought we needed to bring the speakers to the students in casual settings where the students are comfortable,” said Folfas, who organized about six speakers in each series. “We discussed different things in life and how faith applied to them. We started with just four to five UD students and grew to about 70 people.”
After some of the singles in the group started dating, Folfas helped form a Christian Life Group to address issues particular to them. She and her husband are now starting a couple’s group in their home for young families.
“We have monthly meetings in our home,” said Folfas, who is an only child married to an only child and expecting the first grandchild for both sides of the family. “Many were in the singles group and got married and now are taking on more responsibility.”
Meanwhile, after working in a photo lab for 10 years, Folfas has started her own photography business, Simply Snapshots, that focuses on individual, family and wedding photos.
Her husband, Andy, is also involved in weddings providing musical entertainment as a bagpiper in the St. Andrew’s Pipes and Drums Band. To contact Simple Snapshots, call 681-5278.
