“The apartments will be designed to have their own garages,” Tiffany said. “They will have a lot of stonework and different levels.”
The new housing plan is part of the Sugar Ridge housing project. If approved, Miller Valentine plans to construct 18 buildings with 231 units. The apartments will be built on 36 acres with 56 percent of the land being reserved for open space, said Township Administrator Barry Tiffany.
The new apartments will be designed to closely resemble houses. If the project is approved, construction will begin in 2016, and may take up to three years to be completed, said Tiffany.
The high-end apartments are the second phase of the project. Construction is nearly complete for houses on Sugarcreek Boulevard and Park Terrace, which is near the proposed site for the apartments.
Rhonda Smith, who lives nearby, says she thinks the new housing is necessary because Sugarcreek Twp. is expanding.
“I believe we are a booming area, ” she said. “I think the luxury apartments will attract young professionals and bring value to our community.”
Township trustees are meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the township administration building to discuss the plans. There was no information available on construction costs or rental fees for the apartments.
