Two of the dogs needed medical attention and one is still at the vet.
“One of the dogs was extremely malnourished,” board secretary Bruce Friend said. “Besides ribs, hips were showing and even part of the backbone and that’s definitely too thin.”
One dog came bloodied in the face, and Friend said he believes that was due to being kept in too small of a cage.
The humane society, which is also known as Top of Ohio Pet Shelter, is working with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office to find the men with surveillance video it was able to pull from its parking lot camera.
“It was very suspicious how comfortable they felt when they dropped off the dogs,” Dewitt said. “They seemed very familiar with what our processes were out here, so that makes me think it was local people.”
Top of Ohio Pet Shelter’s Executive Director Gail Friend said if you can no longer care for your pets or don’t want them, bring them to the shelter — but during business hours.
“We are open a lot and if we are here we can assess it and take care of it,” Gail Friend said.
She added she has seen an increase this time of year with the number of adoptions and added it might not seem like a good time to adopt a dog, but it is.
“If you can make it work, during this time than any other time is going to be golden,” Gail Friend said.
She said if you decide you can’t take care of a dog you recently adopted, bring it back to the shelter you got it from and the shelter can attempt to find the animal another home.
