Man found dead in snow died of natural causes

FAIRFIELD TWP. — Assistant Butler County Coroner Andy Willis said the autopsy of a 73-year-old found Tuesday, Feb. 16, lying in the snow behind his Canal Street home confirmed he died of natural causes.

Willis said there was no other injury associated with Grady Burton Jr.’s death.

Burton Jr. was found around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday by his wife. Willis said she called 911 immediately.

Township fire chief Dave Downie said Burton Jr. was apparently knocking down icicles from the eaves of the home when he fell into the snow behind his home in the 2700 block of Canal Street. The chief said a broom was laying next to him and he hadn’t been seen for about an hour before he was found.
