Man killed in Friday shooting identified

DAYTON — The man fatally shot Friday on Danner Avenue has been identified as Trenton Robinson, 26, of Trotwood, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s office.

At 5:41 p.m. Friday, police received calls about two men arguing on Danner Avenue near West Stewart Street, by the DeSoto Bass housing complex, Dayton police Sgt. Kelly Hamilton said. Shortly after, police received a call of shots fired.

Officers arriving on scene found Robinson, shot once or twice in the torso, behind an apartment at 1035 Danner Ave. They located five to 10 shell casings in front of an apartment across the street, at 1018 Danner, Hamilton said.

Police believe Robinson was shot, fled across the street, and then died from his injuries. Since the bullet casings were different, more than one shooter may be involved, police said.

Hamilton said there are many witnesses, but few are cooperating with the investigation.

“That’s the problem we have many times — we have a lot of witnesses, but for whatever reason, people don’t want to come forward and tell us what happened,” he said. “We don’t solve crimes unless we have witnesses come forward, most of the time.”

Police have a description of the suspects, but they did not release any details.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call (937) 333-COPS.
