Family members told police and firefighters they dropped of the 53-year-old Fairborn man at Enon Beach earlier on Tuesday. He was planning on boating in a canoe down the Mad River, and would meet with family members at the Ohio 235 bridge over the Mad River at 8 p.m.
The family called 911 after the man didn’t show up between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.
Crews began a search along the Mad River between the two points, before firefighters decided to focus the search at Enon Beach.
State troopers said they received calls of a man walking along I-70 near the bridge over the Mad River before midnight. Firefighters changing location from Rainbow Lakes to Enon Beach also reported a man was on I-70 and asked for police and state troopers to see if he was the missing man.
After police, state troopers, and firefighters made contact with the man on the highway, crews determined this was the missing Fairborn man. He was uninjured, but was transported to the scene at Ohio 235 and was checked out by medics.
State troopers said the man was lost on the river, and walked up to the highway to seek help.
The man suffered no injuries and was allowed to return home with his family.
