Marsh Supermarket in Hamilton to close

HAMILTON — Marsh Supermarket on Erie Highway will close as it is not expected to renew its lease, according to the company.

It is the second announcement this week of business closings. FedEx on Monday said it will close its shipping facility in West Chester Twp. in January, cutting more than 200 jobs.

Marsh Supermarkets Inc. determined it could not renew its lease at 1790 S. Erie Highway because the grocery store wasn’t meeting sales requirements or location or growth potential, according to a statement from spokeswoman Connie Gardner.

Employees will be offered transfers to other Marsh locations or a severance package, according to the statement. At least 90 percent of employees have taken a transfer.

Marsh has two other locations in Hamilton — 1204 Main St. and 1500 Plaza Drive — where employees could be transferred.

Gardner could not be reached Wednesday for further details.

“We want to sincerely thank our loyal customers who we have had the privilege of serving at this location,” read the statement.

Marsh Supermarkets is an Indianapolis, Ind.-based grocer with roughly 100 locations in Indiana and Ohio. Parent company Sun Capital Partners of Florida ended efforts to sell the chain this year.

Marsh’s other area locations include 621 N. University Blvd., Middletown and 5065 Pleasant Ave., Fairfield in Butler County; 11865 Hamilton Ave., Pleasant Run in Hamilton County; 1084 E. Second St., Franklin, in Warren County; and 223 Aukerman St., Eaton, in Preble County.
