Meadowdale High School lockdown lifted after gun rumors

Meadowdale High School was on lockdown Wednesday after unconfirmed reports of a student with a gun.

Authorities said there was a report of a student showing a gun in the school gymnasium, prompting school officials to contact police. The school was placed on lockdown around 11 a.m. while police searched the school for a gun and questioned students.

Jamie Bullens, Director of Safety and Security at Dayton Public Schools, said a K9 was also brought in in attempt to locate a weapon. After interviews with students were complete and a search didn't produce the weapon, the lockdown was lifted and students were dismissed to their next class.

Bullens said the incident is not being treated as a hoax. He said if students see something dangerous, they are encouraged to report it.
