Mexican national heads to prison for repeatedly reentering U.S. illegally

A 29-year-old Mexican national who apparently made the Dayton region a regular stop whenever he was in the states is on his way to prison for repeatedly reentering the United States illegally, David DeVillers, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, said Thursday.

Julian Patino-Espinoza was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Judge Walter H. Rice’s courtroom to three years on the illegally reentry conviction and for violating supervised release from his prior federal illegal reentry conviction.

This marks his third illegal reentry conviction. Two of those have occurred in the Dayton region.

According to court documents:

  • In August 2019, Patino-Espinoza pleaded guilty to one count of illegally reentering the United States after being convicted of a felony

  • In June 2019, federal immigration agents picked him from the Clinton County Jail in Wilmington, where he was being held after arrest on a misdemeanor offense
  • In November 2018, he was deported from the Brownsville, Texas, port of entry
  • In March 2018, federal agents were called to the Montgomery County Jail when he was booked there after an arrest for offenses unrelated to those for which he was most recently convicted.
