Purchase of server for elections office OK’d

Miami County’s elections office will receive a reconditioned server for its vote tabulation system after the county commissioners approved the purchase Thursday, Oct. 1.

The elections board had told its staff to obtain the GEMS server before the November election after staff reported issues with the current server. The reconditioned server from Dominion Voting will cost $8,470 including a tower, license and accessories.

The existing server will be used as a backup.

The elections board, meeting later Thursday, voted to buy 100 electronic poll books for $150,865 from Election Systems and Software LLC. The state will pay 85 percent of the cost.

Elections staff hope to have the poll books for first use in the special election being scheduled to fill the seat of 8th District Congressman John Boehner. NANCY BOWMAN, CONTRIBUTING WRITER
