"From what I was told, they simply weren't getting enough business," Fine said.
Fine said the hotel is owned by Blue Cougar Investments, a New York-based company managed by Interstate Hotels & Resorts.
In a statement, Blue Cougar Dayton LLC said the company, which owns the hotel, "has decided to close the hotel and explore strategic options for redevelopment, taking all possibilities for the buildings and site into consideration. Although located in a premier location in the area, the hotel is closing due to high costs in the area."
"I don't know what those high costs would be, necessarily, that they're referring to," Fine said.
The city wants to discuss any type of redevelopment with Blue Cougar, Fine said.
"It's a highly visible site," he said. "It sits right there at that interchange and, for any type of reuse, we would certainly hope to meet at the table and help any way we can."
On Tuesday, signage around the property was covered in gray tarps. Yellow caution tape and wooden barriers blocked the entrances.
The lone security guard on site refused to comment and referred this newspaper to Wyndham's customer service phone number.
Wyndham did not return messages seeking comment.
Miamisburg Police Chief John Sedlak said a security guard will remain on the premises for an undetermined amount of time while the building seeks a new tenant.
A spokesperson for Interstate Hotel & Resorts was unable to confirm the number of employees effected by closing.
Dayton Garden Wyndham South had 134 rooms, including 11 meeting rooms, and featured an indoor pool and a 1,518 square foot conference area.
Wyndham Worldwide owns Wyndham Hotels, Super 8, Howard Johnson's, Days Inn, Hawthorn Suites and other properties.
A Hawthorne Suites property at 155 Prestige Place Drive remains open.
