Miamisburg’s New Riverfront Park now ready for events

MIAMISBURG — The latest gem developed in downtown Miamisburg is now able to serve as an event destination for the region.

The 7 ½-acre riverfront park area, a key component of the city of Miamisburg’s master plan for downtown, has been made event-ready for the 2011 outdoor season.

Early this spring, several utility access points were added within existing green space where homes and businesses once stood along Miami Avenue. Electric and water now have access at several locations throughout the linear park area, enabling it to be staged in multiple configurations for various events.

The first event scheduled to debut in Riverfront Park is the Taste of Miamisburg scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday, May 20. More than 15 vendors from Miamisburg will offer its best food, while folks will be able to enjoy live entertainment from musical artist Larry Goodwin at 6 p.m. and the Bourbon Lakes Band at 7 p.m..

The public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit in the green space and grassy areas to enjoy the food and music.

Other upcoming events will move to Riverfront Park, including :

•The Pizzazz in the Park Summer Concert Series . There will be 10 free concerts on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. from June 12 through August 14. Each musical performance will be easily visible from the portable stage that will be erected for each concert.

• Other events moving include the family favorite Touch-a-Truck, the Canine Carnival and the new Fall Festival.

Existing parking lots in the area remain in place during this interim phase, and additional parking is available in the downtown area.

The Great Miami River Recreation Trail travels along the park property, offering alternative transportation and scenic views. Future park development slated for this event venue includes a permanent stage, river access, bike depot, water play fountains and restroom facilities. Port-o-lets will be available during the interim phase.

Riverfront Park is located at 1 North Miami Ave. For more information, call the Parks and Recreation Department at (937) 866-4532, or visit website at www.ci.miamisburg.oh.us.
