Fisher Avenue from Dix Road to Schirm Drive in Middletown will again light up this year with approximately 1,000 luminarias in memory of deceased residents and former residents.
This year’s luminaria lighting will take place at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17. The candles usually stay lit until midnight, according to residents.
Ben Thompson decided in 1981 to begin a Christmas memorial for his Fisher Avenue neighbors who had died during the year. In 1986, Thompson died of cancer.
The more than 55 Fisher Avenue neighbors have continued the tradition of lining both sides of their street with luminarias for one night about a week before Christmas.
