Ben Thompson decided in 1981 to begin a Christmas memorial for his Fisher Avenue neighbors who had died during the year. In 1986, Thompson died of cancer.

The more than 55 Fisher Avenue neighbors have continued the tradition of lining both sides of their street with luminarias for one night about a week before Christmas.
