Miss Annette’s dance studio returns

Annette Loopers’ philosophy is that “dance is for everyone and anyone can learn to dance.”

That is the philosophy that the 1977 Centerville High School graduate will use to motivate students at her new dance studio, Miss Annette’s in Kettering.

The studio is new but the name is not. Looper had dance studios by the same name in Centerville and Kettering from 1986 to 2006.

Looper doesn’t remember why she started dancing at an early age in Massachusetts but “I do know that, at an early age, I knew I wanted to be a dance teacher and have my own studio.”

What: Miss Annette’s, located at 2778 Wilmington Pike, Kettering.

What the business does: She teaches ballet, including pointe, as well as tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary and musical theater dance to all ages, from age three through adults.

What makes the business stand out: “My lifetime of teaching … gives me the experience parents look for. I know what works,” she said. She said she also will offer a musical theater college prep program for middle and high school age students.

“I think it will be very beneficial for those students who are planning on pursuing musical theater on a college level and beyond.

Along with the regular adult classes, she has started an adult dance group “for those who just want to dance” and it will meeting on Sunday evenings starting in September.

How the business started: Personal issues made her decide to close her studios in 2006 but after six years of teaching for others Looper decided it was time to have her own studio again.

“I made the decision to open a studio again because I missed the kids so very much. I don’t have children of my own so every child who takes dance from me quickly becomes ‘my kid’,” she said.

“I miss having those children in my life.”

Classes: Classes will be offered Monday through Thursday afternoons as well as Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Open houses will be held throughout August at 6-9 p.m. on Wednesdays and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Those unable to attend those open houses can call the studio and set an appointment.
