Conyers is guest at Dec. 5 town hall

Unemployment, poverty, jobs and health care will be the focus of a town hall to be held Saturday, Dec. 5, at 10 a.m. at the United Theological Seminary Center for Urban Ministry, 1516 Salem Ave., in Dayton. The event is being sponsored by the National Jobs for All Coalition and several local nonprofit, religious, labor and neighborhood groups.

The guest speaker is U.S. Rep. John Conyers of Michigan, currently the longest-serving member of Congress.

A founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus, Conyers has been a major proponent of more than 100 pieces of legislation, including the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Violence Against Women Act of 1994.

The meeting will include a local panel discussing the impact of long-term unemployment and poverty on the Dayton area.

Aullwood Holiday Art Fair is today

Aullwood’s 12th annual Holiday Art Fair is happening from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Marie S. Aull Education Center at 1000 Aullwood Road.

Joe Morgan to speak at Dayton Marriott

The Heart Institute of Dayton will present baseball Hall of Famer Joe Morgan at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Dayton Marriott, 1414 S Patterson Blvd.

Morgan will share stories about his baseball career and talk about the importance of heart health, as part of the Schear Family Heart in Sports Community Conversation Series.

Holly Jolly Celebration at hospital

Sycamore Medical Center is hosting the Holly Jolly Celebration on Sunday, Dec. 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 4000 Miamisburg-Centerville Road.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the purchase of equipment, medication and other critical patient resources for Sycamore Medical Center’s Transition Clinic. American Legion Post to honor WWII veterans

Miamisburg American Legion Post 165 invites all veterans of World War II in the Miamisburg area to enjoy a free steak or pork chop dinner on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the post, 35 N. Main St. The meal will be served between 5 and 7:30 p.m.

Reservations are required by Dec. 6, and must be made by calling 937-866-5493. Veterans who are bringing guests must make reseravations for them as well. Guests will need to pay $10 for the meal.

The American Legion is always looking for new members. Those who were in the service during war time can bring a copy of their DD214 to the post along with $31 to join through 2016. The post will pay dues for those on full-time active duty. STAFF REPORT

New hours established for call center

Montgomery County Department of Job and Family Services, Social Services & Income Support Division will implement a reduced operations schedule for its call center effective Tuesday.

The new hours for the call center will be Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. The agency will remain open to the public Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at its offices at 1111 S. Edwin C. Moses Blvd. in Dayton.
