MIAMI TWP.

Austin Springs project moving forward

Plans for exterior upgrades to a 200-unit luxury apartment complex off Ohio 741 will now go to township trustees.

A proposal to add a pond and fountain, and to change signage and the entrance to the 15-acre site at 2991 Austin Springs Blvd. near Austin Boulevard have received preliminary approval.

The Miami Twp. Zoning Commission unanimously voted Tuesday night to move the plans forward. They are part of a $1 million plan to upgrade the complex, which was purchased by The Connor Group last year.

The Connor Group, headquartered at nearby Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport, owns more than 100 apartment communities nationwide, including four others in the Dayton area.

Austin Springs is within a mile of the future sites of two upscale apartment complexes that would bring 500 additional units to the area. The Flats at Austin Landing across the street will include 274 units and Austin Park, a mixed use development off Ohio 741 at Miami Village Drive, calls for 226 units.

Both projects have been approved by trustees, who are expected to get the Austin Springs case later this month. STAFF REPORT

3 pull petitions for council race

So far, only three people have pulled petitions to be on the Nov. 3 ballot for Vandalia City Council races, according to the Montgomery County Board of Elections.

Those individuals include incumbent Robert Ahlers, and challengers Richard Herbst and Charles Smith Jr. The only petitions that had been certified by the Board of Elections as of June 15 were those turned in by Herbst, who serves on the city’s Board of Zoning Appeals. His petitions were certified on May 4.

Smith is a member of the city’s bicycle committee.

The current terms for Ahlers and fellow council members David Brusman Jr. and David Gerhard expire this year.
