Rec needs topic of focus groups

Focus group sessions on a needs assessment for the city’s parks and recreation division will begin today.

Four sessions will be held through Friday by Wright State University, which is conducting the assessment to identify the wants and needs of Moraine residents.

The sessions will be the basis for recommendations WSU will make to the city.

A parents meeting will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Payne Recreation Center; 11 a.m. Saturday at the PRC for residents; at noon Monday at the Moraine Civic Center for seniors citizens; and at 6 p.m. Friday for youth. STAFF REPORT.

URS raises awareness of developmental disabilities

United Rehabilitation Services (URS) will celebrate Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month this month with a variety of activities.

They include Harrigan’s 5K Run/Walk at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, beginning at Harrigans Tavern at 4070 Marshall Rd., Kettering and participation from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Montgomery County Board of Developmental Disabilities Winter Carnival, Montgomery County Fairgrounds.

URS will host a Client Art Show at 1 p.m. Tuesday at URS, 4710 Old Troy Pike at Needmore.

Two police officers sworn in

Two police officers were sworn in by West Carrollton Mayor Jeff Sanner this week.

Matthew Harper and Jason Williams took the oath of office before West Carrollton City Council Tuesday night.

Harper, a 24-year-old Eaton native, previously served as an officer with the Enon Police Department. He attended the Sinclair Community College Police Academy.

Williams is a 30-year-old Dayton native who attended Otterbein College before serving six years in the Marine Corps before being discharged as a sergeant. In 2010, he joined the Ohio State Highway Patrol and was a trooper there until coming to West Carrollton.

Both will earn $25.02 per hour. STAFF REPORT

Cox Arboretum Volunteer Orientation

Volunteer orientation from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, at Cox Arboretum MetroPark, Mead Westvaco Theatre, 6733 Springboro Pike.

Participants will learn about our sustainable horticulture initiative and how volunteers fit into the picture. Find out about the many ways you can help the Arboretum grow. Arts commission accepting parade applications

The Huber Heights Arts & Beautification Commission is accepting applications for the annual Star Spangled Heights Parade on July 4.

Applications are due by June 19, and can be downloaded at www.hhoh.org. There is no entry fee to participate.

The parade begins at 10 a.m. at the Huber Centre and ends at Nebraska Avenue.
