HAMILTON — The Mozart Festival by the Hamilton-Fairfield Symphony Orchestra began April 9 with a 5K walk/run and closes this weekend with a dinner and free concert.
Feast and Frolic
The Mozart Festival turns silly with the feast and frolic dinner, which will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 16 at the Harry T. Wilks Center at the Miami University Hamilton campus. The cost for the dinner is $50 per person or $75 per person for a patron level ticket.
“That’s the antithesis of the Grand Finale Concert,” Director Paul Stanbery said. “This will feature wenches and food and that includes me adding to the tomfoolery of the occasion.”
There will also be a silent auction with cash and credit card bids accepted.
Grand Finale Concert
The finale concert is free and open to the public and will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 17 at the St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church at Liberty and Ridgelawn avenues in Hamilton. It will feature a performance of Mozart’s “Requiem,” which serves as both an end and a beginning. It’s the end of the Mozart Festival, but it kicks off the orchestra’s tribute to the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. Other tributes will be held this year and next year as well, Stanbery said.
“For us, it’s a major thing — that will be our entire, year-long focus,” he said.
“In the Hamilton-Fairfield area, there’s no opportunity to hear this quality of a symphony,” Mullins said. “Every year (the festival) gets bigger. We get people from outside the county and outside the state.”
