National group to headline music festival

The a cappella musical group Street Corner Symphony, a finalist on the second season of NBC’s The Sing-Off, will perform Saturday, Nov. 8 at Trent Arena, 3301 Shroyer Road in Kettering.

The 7 p.m. concert is the final event of the two-day Kettering National A Cappella Festival, which has attracted 61 ensembles from seven states for clinics and evaluations by top national a cappella performers and directors.

Tickets for Street Corner Symphony are $20 or $30, available three ways – at www.acafest.org, at the Kettering Fairmont High School box office (937-499-2647) or at the door. Fairmont’s award-winning Fusion and Eleventh Hour groups will be the opening acts. Street Corner Symphony features Fairmont graduate Kurt Zimmerman – a former Eleventh Hour member – on vocal percussion.

The festival’s Friday, Nov. 7 showcase features the five-member group VoicePlay of Orlando, Fla., as well as the top visiting ensembles. That 7:30 p.m. event will be held in the Fairmont High School auditorium, also 3301 Shroyer Road, with $10 tickets available at the door. JEREMY P. KELLEY
