National Pizza Day: 3 Springfield spots for pies

Hand-tossed, deep dish, extra cheese, all white — the debate about what makes a great pizza is an argument that has echoed around kitchen tables for decades. But whether you like traditional pepperoni, all veggies or even the infamous Hawaiian, everyone can agree that Feb. 9, also known as National Pizza Day, is something we can all celebrate.

Here are three spots in Springfield where you can grab a great pizza (hopefully without a side order of topping drama).

Bada Bing! Pizzeria

Located at 40 N. Fountain Ave., this 2016 Best of Springfield winner has some pies people can’t get enough of. With some specialty pies like the Mona Lisa, the Vampire Slayer, and the Kickin’ Kung Pow Chicken, there’s bound to be something for everyone. The garlic knots are just as good.

Mikey’s Pizza

If you’re a fan of thin crusts, square cuts and generous toppings, Mikey’s is for you. This low-key spot, located at 406 W. Harding Road, has plenty to offer hungry pie lovers, including a bacon cheeseburger pizza and the aptly named Meatspolsion. The prices are also reasonable, so it’s a good way to celebrate without breaking the bank.

O’Conners Irish Pub

If you need a great atmosphere to go with your great pizza, look no further than O’Conners. This spot, located at 2200 N. Limestone St., offers more than just Irish fare — classics like buffalo chicken pizza and more adventurous style like a taco pizza and even a Reuben-inspired pizza are up for grabs. If those aren’t your cup of tea, there’s plenty more to pick from on their generous menu.
