Blizard said that number was given to him by company officials and is subject to change. He said it only relates to workers represented by his chapter.

“I don’t believe it will increase based on the information that I have right now,” he added.
Blizard said the layoffs are a result of Navistar’s decision to reduce the number of units it produces on its main line, which makes medium-duty commercial trucks.
The company announced last month that it would be reducing production rates at its Springfield plant. Though, main line production was reduced on Aug. 5, it will be reduced again on Monday, Blizard said.

However, line production rates for the plant’s line two, which makes vans for General Motors, is expected to increase on Sept. 16.
Blizard said that has helped to offset the number of employees who will be affected by the layoffs.
