NWS: New Carlisle hit by tornado

NEW CARLISLE, Ohio -- National Weather Service forecasters say that it was a tornado that hit New Carlisle Wednesday.  At 4:10 Wednesday afternoon,  the weather service said that a confirmed tornado hit the community with wind speeds of 70 to 75 miles per hour. It was rated an EF-O, the lowest category for tornadoes.  Forecasters say the twister had a maximum width of 200 yards and a path length of 1.5 miles. No one was hurt.

There was damage around Lake Road and Main Street. An aluminum facade was pulled from the former Trostel's Furniture Store, and a fence was destroyed near a city pool.  Trees and power lines were reported down on Sigler Road near State Route 235. In Springfield Township, straight line winds are believed responsible for damage near State Route 334 and Route Four.

Newscenter 7 Meteorologist Rich Wirdzek says that thunderstorms are a possibility into Wednesday evening.  Damaging winds and hail are possible. He says a cold front  is moving through with the thunderstorms. Thursday will see light showers with a high of 57 degrees.
