Obama: Budget cuts $2 trillion from deficit

President Barack Obama speaking from the Rose Garden at the White House today said his budget will reduce current deficits by nearly $2 trillion.

The President said the total will help surpass the goal of $4 trillion in deficit reductions. In his speech, he said the budget proves responsible spending and cuts can co-exist.

“Americans deserve better than reckless, across-the-board spending cuts,” Obama said. “My budget also replaces the foolish, across-the-board spending cuts.”

“The people I feel for are the people directly feeling the pain of these cuts … the people who can least afford it,” he said. “They’re hurting military families that already hurting enough.”

“There are seniors who depend on services like Meals On Wheels” who are seeing their services cut,” Obama said.

The budget focuses on several projects, including building new roads and bridges and education.
