Officials recall robes after fires, reports of deaths

Pennsylvania retail company Blair LLC is recalling 138,000 chenille robes after reports of three robes catching on fire. One report stated the person wearing the robe received second degree burns.

The company first recalled the robes in April 2009 after it had received reports of nine deaths allegedly due to the burn hazard for the chenille robes, according to a release from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Most victims were said to have been cooking in the robes, the release said.

The recall has been expanded to include all women’s chenille apparel manufactured by A-One Textile & Towel, which is based in Pakistan. The names of the products are: Full Length Women’s Chenille Robes, Women’s Chenille Jacket, Women’s Chenille Lounge Jacket and Women’s Chenille Top.

Blair recalled 162,000 units in April 2009, the release said. The recalled products were sold in Blair catalogs and on the Blair Web site. They were also sold at stores in Pennsylvania and Delaware.
