One to retire, two positions open in Vandalia

The city of Vandalia is set to hire for two positions. The city will accept applications until Nov. 19 for an assistant to the city manager and one for the finance director.

The assistant to the city manager position opens when long time Vandalia employee, Julie Trick, announced retirement effective Jan. 2. The assistant to the finance director, Kevin Baker, accepted a job with Montgomery County.

Trick first served as a reporter for the Vandalia Drummer, and that is how she began to develop her relationship with the city staff.

In 1987, she began her work for the city as a community information officer. She has worked as the human resources director, and by 2007 was promoted to the assistant to the city manager.

“Julie has been an integral member of the city’s management team, and has played a role in the hiring of many of our current staff members,” said Communications Manager Rich Hopkins. “She’s also been in charge of managing our health insurance, and supervising our communication projects.”

Trick graduated from Vandalia-Butler High School and Ohio University. She lives in Vandalia with her husband, Jeff, and they have two daughters.

“The city and its leaders – both past and present – have offered me an opportunity that few are blessed to enjoy. I have been able to work, learn and grow while putting my family first. For that, I am eternally grateful,” said Trick in her letter of resignation to the city.
