Opposition for Cottages of Beavercreek continues

Residents continued to oppose a controversial zoning application for the Cottages of Beavercreek, a proposed 90-unit condominium development on County Line Road, during the city council meeting tonight.

Brian Daniel, the Cinnamon Ridge condo association president, said residents have safety concerns about the Quill Road and Straight Arrow Road intersection.

“That is our only entrance to Cinnamon Ridge,” he said. “So by making the secondary entrance from the Cottages dump into that intersection, you are now diverting traffic from two entire condominium complexes into one very small intersection which currently is just a stop sign. That is also a bus stop.”

The council approved the zoning application to move to a second reading and will vote on the application during the third reading.

Monday's public hearing came about a month after the city planning commission approved the zoning application in July.

Before the planning commission approved the zoning application for the development, neighboring residents said they are concerned the proposed condominium development will trigger declining home values and bring more vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

Plans for the Cottages of Beavercreek were amended to deal with some of the concerns voiced by neighboring communities, but residents in these areas said all of their concerns have not been addressed. They asked the planning commission to reject the zoning application for the project.
