OSU roommates find man squatting in their basement

A man was found living in a storage area of an off-campus home at The Ohio State University, and the 15 students paying rent there said he was squatting.

According to reports and information from NBC4i in Columbus, Mitch Zaharewicz and Dave Kolonz said they noticed noises and open kitchen cabinets. The man was found when one of the roommates ran into him while he was going back and forth to the bathroom.

The man was not supposed to be living in the basement that is used for storage, which he had furnished with carpet, furniture, a bed and cable television.

The students believe he also created a bathroom and installed a wall.

The man, identified by the name Jeremy, told the roommates he has been living there nearly one year. He was asked to leave, and complied.

The students each pay about $500 per month to reside in the home. They are questioning the property management and asking if inspections are completed between tenants.

The management company has not commented on the incident.
