Even after 100 years, there is a first time for everything, according to officials at the Otterbein Senior Living Center.
Otterbein will hold the first gala in its 100-year history at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Manor House, 7440 S. Mason Montgomery Road, Mason. Tickets are $50.
“We are looking to honor our past, recognize the vision of today and look down the road to tomorrow,” said Frances Sack, Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Choice Charitable Gift Planner and one of the organizers of the event.
The 100th anniversary celebration gala will benefit Otterbein’s Benevolent Care and Special Need Endowment fund, said Sack. Cox Media Group Ohio is a sponsor of the gala.
“These endowments provide funds for residents who need financial assistance for health care needs and are dispersed throughout all of Otterbein’s campuses,” Sack said.
Sack said the event was the kickoff to a year-long celebration of Otterbein’s centennial, with events planned for all 11 of Otterbein’s communities. They include five full-service continuing care retirement communities, five skilled nursing and rehabilitation neighborhoods and one home health agency.
The dinner will include a reception hosted by Otterbein President and CEO Jill Hreben along with retired presidents Don Gilmore and Dr. Charles Dilgard. A presentation will be made on the history of Otterbein and entertainment will be provided by classic pop band “The Unexpected Boys from New York.”
Otterbein started as a home for orphans and the elderly in 1912 at the site of a former Shaker plantation. It serves more than 2,000 people and is related to the East Ohio and West Ohio Conferences of the United Methodist Church.
