Passenger snags infant and flees from New Carlisle crash

A man was arrested and four people, including an infant, were taken to the hospital following a head-on crash on Ohio 235 in New Carlisle this afternoon.

The crash was reported around 1 p.m. and troopers believe the man may have been impaired by either drugs or alcohol, Lt. Brian Aller with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the man arrested was driving a gray vehicle that struck another vehicle.  His name was not released.

A female passenger in the grey vehicle grabbed the infant from the backseat of the gray vehicle and ran from the scene.

“The female that took off running actually took the child with her,” Aller said.

Troopers located the female and infant a short time later and both were taken to the hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening, investigators said.

The two adults in the other vehicle that was hit also were taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
